Biking and Kayaking in 25 mph winds
Today's plans were revised due to 21 mph winds on Lake Tahoe this morning. So, we skipped the kayaking and started with a longer bike ride ending about 19 miles later. However, in the middle of the biking, came the 12 miles of hiking to Half Moon Lake and Gilmore Lake, uphill both ways. We missed out on the chance for an ice cream when the customer line veared out of the building and onto the sidewalk. The return trip on Fallen Leaf Road was like a freeway, cars going both ways as we tried to avoid the chaos, feeling safe until we hooked up with the bike trail where the family and chatty Kathy bikers were sprawled all over the trail. Then at the end, Katrina felt the need to add another mile on the bikes so she could tell Lorraine we did 20 miles. All was good until we found a flaw in her math and Lorraine really didn't give a rip about making it to the 20 mile mark. So start to finish, with a nice sit-down lunch on a ridge above Half Moon Lake, we were active for 7 hours. Not a bad start until those stiff muscles won't crawl out of bed tomorrow. Sleep well, the Truckee River awaits our adventures tomorrow.
